Sekine Azusa (関根梓) is a Japanese singer. She is a former member and leader of the idol group Up Up Girls (Kakko Kari), and also a former member of Hello Pro Egg.

On December 30, 2023, she graduated from Up Up Girls (Kakko Kari) to focus on treatment for her poor health.

2004[]

In June, Sekine joined Hello! Project as a member of Hello Pro Egg when she passed the auditions alongside twenty-nine other girls.

2009[]

In Mano Erina's single Hajimete no Keiken, Sekine was the backup dancer along with 5 other members of Hello Pro Egg.

2010[]

In Mano Erina's single Haru no Arashi, Sekine was the backup dancer along with 3 other Hello Pro Eggs.

2011[]

On February 22, a K-Pop cover dance group called UFZS was formed with Sekine, Furukawa Konatsu, Mori Saki, Sato Ayano, and Arai Manami.

On March 3, it was revealed that Sekine, along with Sengoku Minami and the other members of UFZS, will be members of a new group called Up-Front Girls (Kakko Kari).

On March 9, it was announced that Sato, Sekine, Arai, and Kitahara Sayaka had completed their training within Hello Pro Egg.[1]

2012[]

In April, it was announced Sekine would be a regular on the TV show Test no Hanamichi.

On May 5, Sekine and Arai Manami starred in the stage play Shiritsu Guriguri Gakuen (私立グリグリ学園).

2013[]

Sekine had a small role in a 2 part horror movie titled Ada ~ADA~. The movie was directed by Koji Shiraishi and was released on July 13.

2014[]

On July 4, it was announced that Sekine would be a part of a group titled @JAM ALLSTARS. The group sang the theme song for @JAM EXPO 2014 and a CD was released for the song.

2019[]

On April 7, she held the Sekine Azusa Solo LIVE ~Seichou no Iro~ at Hatsudai the DOORS.[2]

2020[]

On December 17, the group held the concert "Up Up Girls (Kakko Kari) FIVE SOUL FOREVER" in Zepp Tokyo, which was the last live concert to feature Furukawa Konatsu, Mori Saki, Saho Akari, and Arai Manami. During the concert, it was announced that she has changed her member color from orange to red.[3]

2021[]

On September 29, it was announced that Sekine Azusa had been diagnosed with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy at a hospital and needed immediate medical treatment. This was due to her complaining of neck pain and subsequently missing a scheduled concert appearance. She was absent from all live performances through the end of October.[4]

2022[]

On June 10, it was announced that Sekine Azusa would be taking a break from all activities due to being in poor physical condition. After discussing her future activities, it was agreed that she would take a period of rest to prioritize her recovery. Up Up Girls (Kakko Kari) would be active as a 7 member group for the time being.[5] On September 23, she announced that she would be returning to activities.[6]

2023[]

On January 1, Up Up Girls (Kakko Kari), Up Up Girls (2), Up Up Girls (Pro Wres), Sengoku Minami, and Kikkawa You were removed from the UP-FRONT CREATE website.

On August 3, it was announced that Sekine would be taking another break from all activities due to being in poor physical condition. Up Up Girls (Kakko Kari) would be active as a 5 member group for the time being.[7]

On December 30, after months of hiatus due to poor health, Sekine graduated from Up Up Girls (Kakko Kari) to focus on treatment. Following her graduation, she would continue to rest and recover her health, and her future activities are currently undecided.[8]
