Synopsis
Edit
The story centers around middle-school students Miaka and Yui. The friends discover The Universe of the Four Gods, an old book in the library seemingly about the Four Gods of the mythical Chinese Constellation. The girls find themselves transported into the narrative by mysterious, magical means. While Yui is able to escape almost immediately, Miaka finds herself trapped, declared to be the Priestess of Suzaku and destined to gather Suzaku's seven Celestial Warriors together to summon the God to Earth once more. Yui eventually finds her way back into the book as well and is declared the Priestess of Seiryuu, establishing herself as Miaka's enemy. Miaka finds love in one of the Celestial Warriors, Tamahome, and finds herself conflicted between her previous dreams and new desire to fulfill her destiny within the Vermilion Book.
